Informational Advice Post: What kind of food should you get catered?

When people plan events they can get caught up with the many choices of food they have available. This blog post can help those of you narrow down your search and find the right meal for your event. There are many do's and don'ts when it comes to catering for an event. Below I have listed five things for you to look at that can help lower the many food choices you are faced with.

  • Messiness of the food
Certain events require the attendee to look professional and certain foods and ruin that aesthetic. For example, messy foods should not be brought to weddings or business meetings. Messy foods can get on peoples clothes which can either ruin wedding photos or ruin a very expensive suit or dress. Food to avoid that are messy are anything with a lot of sauce, a burrito, and greasy dishes.
  • Your preference
What you prefer is very important for many different events. Examples of such events would be weddings or birthdays. Many people spend time worrying about what they should feed everyone when the event is about them. It is okay to choose what you want for an event that is about you. On the contrary, if the event is for a company you are apart of then your preference is not very important. In that situation I would use your awareness of the people to think of a dish that most people will enjoy even if that means it is not your favorite dish.
  • Allergies of the attendees
This has been getting more important as time goes on. Nut allergies are on the rise so many places such as some schools don't allow peanut butter. People can die or get seriously hurt by consuming something they are allergic to so before planning an event you should know of allergies. If possible try to get a dish that everyone is able to eat but if that is not feasible have special dishes made for those with allergies. Ensure those dishes are stored and made separately.
  • Budget
This is probably the second most important item on this list right behind allergies. Be sure to choose something that is within your budget. If you are 20 years old and planning a wedding, chances are you can't afford to cater caviar so find something more in your budget. If you are hosting a very important meeting with potential investors you may want to ensure you have a higher budget so you leave a good impression. Ensure you don't spend too much but also make sure that your budget is high enough to get what you need for the event.
  • Length and setting of the event
Lastly, you need to be aware of how long the food is expected to last. If you have an event in the summer heat you cannot have cold food out that long since it will go bad quickly. If you are having an event that lasts all day in a cold ballroom you shouldn't order hot food to be served all day because it will get ruined and will waste your money.
