Debate on catering vs. home cooking an event

Deciding on how to provide food for an event can be very difficult. Most people have not had to cook for a large event or had to plan for an event to be catered. This can lead to confusion since they do not have experience and do not know what to do In this article I will discuss the debate on whether or not to have an event catered by a professional company or to cook the meal at home by yourself.

The first side of the debate that will be discussed is why you should get the event catered. One very important aspect is the legal side. If someone gets sick at the event from your food then you are the one responsible. If a catering company provides the meal then they are responsible and hold all the liability. Also, catering companies typically have lots of experience cooking and can produce very good tasting meals. Not everyone is a chef so the quality of a meal is typically higher with a catering company. Using a catering company requires less time and allows for more free time on your end. Catering companies will take the time to get the ingredients, make the food, and set up the plates. This can save you several hours of time that could be spent planning other things or enjoying the event.

The other side of the debate is why you should cook the meal yourself. The most obvious reason to do this is because it is cheaper. Cost is the biggest deciding factor in most purchases so many people will go with the cheaper option. Making it yourself allows you to know exactly where the ingredients come from and gives you more control. Many people like the extra control for important events. Making the food allows you to use your own recipes. Home made recipes are typically peoples favorite meals so being able to incorporate those can make the event that much more special. The last reason why this is appealing is because it gives you the chance to work with friends and family which creates quality time. My parents and grandparents would prepare meals with me as a child and that has led me to develop a closer relationship with them and start my own catering company.
