Problem With Farberware Knife Set

The first knife set I purchased was a cheap 6-piece Farberware set I found at Walmart. At this point I did not know much about cooking products. I very quickly found out that paying for quality products is very important. This knife set started to rust after its very first wash. When I noticed this I immediately cleaned the rust off and made sure it was dry. I then tried other ways of washing the knives. Sadly by the point I figured out how to take care of the knives the issue had gone on for too long and they were beyond repair. I had to dispose of the knife set since I couldn't use them anymore. Thankfully I learned from this experience and can write about it here. I will attach a link to the specific set that I bought at the end of this article.

Cheap knife sets like the one I am writing about are prone to rust due to what they are made out of. More expensive knife sets are typically made out of better materials that are better at deterring rust. There are ways to prevent rust on a knife set. One common mistake is people put them in the dishwasher which is exactly what I did. If they sit in the dishwasher it allows the water from the damp air to seep into the metal which causes rust. To prevent this I recommend hand washing your knives and making sure they are completely dry at the end. Another thing I would do is make sure they are not in a moist area like the sink or a wet plate. This can have the same effect as leaving them in the dishwasher. Keeping them dry is the biggest prevention measure and if you can do that then the knives should last you a long time.
